Walk to School 2024 is coming up and we're excited about the chance to get moving. Walking or cycling to school is more than just transport - it's a chance for better health, camaraderie, and a close connection to our environment. So put on your comfortable shoes or dust off your bikes and let's get ready!
Why Walk or Cycle?
Starting your day with walking or cycling to school is a great way to boost your health. You get fresh air, exercise, and a chance to wake up naturally. Plus, you're helping the environment by cutting down on car pollution.
Is your bike ready?
Before we get moving, let's check our bikes. Remember the ABCDs of bike safety - Air, Brakes, Chain and Direction - to ensure your bike is ready for the road. And if you're wearing a helmet, make sure it fits properly.
Learning to cycle
If you're new to cycling, that's not a problem! Starting is as simple as learning how to balance without pedals. Just take it slowly and focus ahead. Don't worry if you're not perfect at first - we all learn at our own pace.
Bikeability
Once you've got the basics down, you can improve your skills with Bikeability. Bikeability offers courses for cyclists of all levels to improve their skills and build confidence. And the great part is you can do this while participating in Walk to School 2024.
Bikeability's courses are available at schools. You can check our website for more information.
