What is the Level 5 Certificate in Primary School Physical Education Specialism?
Developed by the Association for Physical Education (afPE) and Sports Leaders UK (SLUK), this course upskills individuals to assist in raising the standards of PE teaching within primary schools.
Through tutor led sessions, interactive tasks and evidence-based assessments, you’ll improve your PE subject knowledge, develop your skills to plan, teach and assess PE, and increase in confidence to deliver high-quality lessons.
Who can take the course?
- Teachers
- Higher level teaching assistants
- Teaching assistants - Need to have extensive experience of supporting teachers across all years and key stages in delivering PE
- Coaches - Need a minimum of five years’ experience assisting teachers across Key Stage 1 and 2. Required to have a minimum of a Level 2 qualification in any sport they assist the teachers with.
How is the course delivered?
The qualification is delivered through a combination of online and in-person sessions by primary school physical education experts and subject specialists, including PE consultant Crichton Casbon.
How much does the course cost?
£1150 (includes SLUK delegate registration fee of £175)
Your PE and sport premium can be used to fund the qualification, as well as your cover for the days you’re away from school.
What is the Level 6 Award in Primary School PE Subject Leadership?
If you want to progress from assisting to leading high-quality PE, this course is for you.
The Level 6 is a degree level qualification that gives teachers the confidence, knowledge and skill to lead and deliver high-quality primary school PE as a subject leader.
You will learn how to design, implement, review and revise a targeted strategy to develop an aspect of primary school PE provision.
Who can take the course?
This course is for those with QTS status who have a Level 5 qualification.
When is the next course running?
Each day runs from 9am – 3pm.
The next course starts 2023/2024.
Session 1 Tuesday 9th January 9.00am to 3.00pm
Session 2 Tuesday 5th March 9.00am till 3.00pm
Session 3 Thursday 13th June 2.30pm till 4.00pm (presentations only)
How is the course delivered?
The qualification is delivered virtually over two days.
How much does the course cost?
£250
Your PE and sport premium is an effective and sustainable way to pay for this qualification.
When is the next course running?
The next course is running on Tuesday 9th January 2024 and Tuesday 5th March 2024.
There will also be a presentation on Thursday 13th June.
