Road 2 Paris

'Road 2 Paris' workshop

Igniting Passion for Sports

As the clock ticks down to the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, there’s a palpable wave of excitement sweeping across schools in England, thanks to the innovative and inspiring efforts of Aspire Active Education Group. Their latest initiative, the Road 2 Paris school sport workshops, is championing a remarkable cause — encouraging young minds to embrace physical activity through the magnetic appeal of the Olympic and Paralympic spirit.

A Day to Remember

On a bright morning on February 23rd, the corridors of Boldmere Junior School in Sutton Coldfield buzzed with an unusual yet exhilarating energy. The school had the privilege of hosting Aspire's 'Road 2 Paris' sport workshops, which brought the dreams and aspirations of the Olympic and Paralympic Games right into its sports hall.

Children aged 9 to 10 years were given a golden chance to dive into various sports activities — from wheelchair racing and goalball to archery and boxing. It wasn’t just about trying something new; it was about touching the essence of what makes sports so captivating — the determination, the team spirit, and the sheer joy of movement.

Olympic and Paralympic Role Models Light the Way

Adding to the special day were Siobhán Fitzpatrick, a Paralympian in wheelchair basketball, and Sadam Koumi, a 400m sprint Olympian. Their presence was not just inspiring but also a testament to what dedication and embracing sports can lead to. Hearing Siobhán underscore the importance of trying various sports as a key to discovering one’s passion and potential was a crucial takeaway for the students. It underlined the message that the pursuit of physical activity isn't just about competition; it’s about self-discovery, enjoyment, and health.

Empowering a Generation

Aspire Active Education Group’s director, Paul Griffiths, alongside co-founder James Trowman, has steered the organisation with a clear vision — to eradicate physical inactivity for good. Since the inaugural Olympic-themed workshop ahead of London 2012, they’ve seen their vision impact over 94,760 children across 412 primary schools. Their goal is ambitious and noble: to inspire children to develop a lifelong passion for physical activity.

A Commitment to Movement and Well-being

The commendations for Aspire don’t stop at Boldmere Junior School. Their widespread influence and dedication to enhancing physical education have been acknowledged and awarded, underpinning their significant role in tackling child inactivity and fostering employment for the youth in the region.

As Aspire gears up to amplify its Road 2 Paris workshops, its mission aligns with an impending global spectacle — the Paris 2024 Games. This initiative not only brings sports to the forefront of children's everyday lives but also serves as a beacon of inspiration, aiming to foster a generation that values and pursues an active lifestyle.
