Last Friday was a landmark day as we gathered for the much-anticipated Aspire Training Solutions Skills Festival. Our Midlands apprentices showed up in Birmingham, while our Wiltshire learners made a splash in Westbury. It was a day jam-packed with learning, growth, and heaps of hands-on experience.
Catching up and Diving In
The Skills Festival kicked off with a vital catch-up session. Everyone rolled up their sleeves to complete any work that needed that final push across the finish line, like the Safeguarding survey, our interactive Aspire:ED workshops, any missing masterclass tasks, and reflections on what we've learned so far. And let's not forget to log those crucial off-the-job hours!
Preparing for Success
With eyes on the prize, we focused on two main areas: "Preparing for Success" and the "Level 2 Multi Skills Qualification". Those might sound like big concepts, but our skilled coaches broke them down into manageable, bite-sized pieces. Because, our apprentices are soon entering their End-Point Assessment (EPA), and we want everyone to be fully equipped to take on that challenge.
Tips for the End-Point Assessment
Our talented skills coaches shone a light on the Top Tips for End-Point Assessment. They walked us through what to expect from the EPA and even laid out the blueprint of our apprenticeship journey, with the EPA as the grand finale.
The A, B, and Cs of Fundamental Movement Skills
One of the biggest hits of the day was diving deep into the ABCs of Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS):
- Agility
- Balance
- Coordination
- Locomotion
- Stabilisation
- Object Manipulation
Afternoon Action: Small Groups, Big Impact
In the afternoon, the energy cranked up a notch. We split into teams, with each group tackling a single FMS. The challenge? Create up a delivery session that spotlights that skill.
We explored how each movement skill could be the star of the show. Groups needed to craft sessions that not only engaged everyone but zeroed in on highlighting the fine points of each FMS.
The Takeaway
The Skills Festival wasn't just about catching up; it was a celebration of the journey, a masterclass in preparation, and an exercise in excellence. As we all gear up for our EPAs, we carry with us not just the knowledge shared but the confidence and the camaraderie that only a day like this can ignite. Here's to every learner who took part.
