Skills Festival

Our Aspire Training Solutions 'Skills Festival'

Lighting the way: Our Skills Festival recap

Last Friday, we hosted a Skills Festival for sports apprentices in the Midlands and the South West! We focused on building critical skills, sharing information, and fostering an environment where everyone could learn and grow together. And, we're eager to tell you how it all went down!

A vibrant start – 'Career Information, Advice and Guidance Bingo'

We kicked off the day with a game – but not just any game. It was our special 'Career Information, Advice and Guidance Bingo'. The objective? To take our apprentices out of their comfort zones and help them develop their communication skills by interacting with a variety of new people. It wasn't just fun, it was a valuable leap into professional communication and networking in a friendly, supportive setting.

Reflect and shine

Next up, each of our apprentices got a chance to reflect on their journey so far. By examining the factors influencing their apprenticeships, they prepared themselves to build a roadmap for the future. This introspection cultivated a sense of self-awareness and growth, highlighting that an individual's journey isn't just about where they're going, but also where they've been.

Forge ahead with the right tools

Building on that reflection, we transitioned into a CV development session. We provided each apprentice with the tools to effectively present themselves on paper, shining a spotlight on their unique skills and experiences. But we didn't stop at CVs! We dove deeper into key transferable skills, discussed crucial interview talking points, and even completed a 'Careers DNA Scorecard', assessing which roles our apprentices are best suited for.

Map out your future

The afternoon session offered a glimpse into the future. Apprentices explored our career map, providing a clear pathway towards achieving their 'dream job'. It's all about picturing the goal, preparing for the journey, and then charting the necessary steps.

Embrace the power of CIMSPA and CPD

Then, we welcomed Andy Heald, who led a session highlighting the importance of CIMSPA's portal. Apprentices discovered how CIMSPA membership enhances career opportunities and accelerates professional development across diverse sectors, from sport and fitness to coaching and outdoor exercise. Adding to this, we highlighted Continuous Professional Development (CPD), showing how ongoing skill development can assist in reaching their dream jobs.

Ace that interview!

As the day neared its close, we turned our attention to interview skills. Our apprentices practised their newly learned tips and tricks in mock interview sessions, followed by insightful 1-1 feedback from a tutor. What's more valuable than real-time, constructive feedback to improve and excel?

We believe in empowerment through sports and education, and our Skills Festival last Friday is a reflection of that very ethos. We're here to break down barriers, elevate learning, and celebrate the unique journeys of every apprentice.
