Open up the world of golf to every child

Golf is a game for a lifetime.

And so, starting young offers children a sport, a passion and a way of staying active for life.

But when asking children about their favourite sports, golf doesn’t crop up all that often.

Cost, accessibility, perceptions, equipment, difficulty and time are all barriers to participation.

But building strength, increasing endurance, supporting heart health, developing resilience, boosting confidence, enhancing focus, learning respect, promoting independence, making friends and supporting wellbeing are all benefits of participation.

And so, breaking down these barriers is key.

We’ve teamed up with the Golf Foundation to do just that with the launch of our brand new after-school programme.

And for a limited time only the Golf Foundation are funding 42% of the cost, saving your school £250.

What is the golf after-school programme?

The programme is delivered over five weeks by a qualified Aspire team member. Our educators have completed the Golfway Activators Workshop, the recognised course from the Golf Foundation for coaches and teachers delivering the primary school golf programme.

The programme is designed to introduce children of all abilities and from all backgrounds to golf in a way that’s fun, inclusive, meaningful and enriching.

The adapted equipment is bright and colourful, big and bold, so that pupils achieve success straight away. Sessions are taught through a series of lively team games suitable for a school hall or playground. To ensure engagement and progress, the activities can be adapted to the ability of the pupils.

Through the games and activities, children are taught life skills and encouraged to think how they can use these skills away from the playground.

How does the golf programme benefit pupils?

  • Provides an introduction to a non-traditional school sport in a familiar environment
  • Teaches the key skills for golf in a fun and safe way
  • Introduces an individual sport (Golf is a great way to set personal best scores, work out how to improve next time and track progress)
  • Develops ‘Skills for Life’ tools such as emotional control, focus, visualisation and self-reflection and also the importance of honesty, respect, perseverance and teamwork.

How does the golf programme benefit your school?

  • Teaches positive values and the power of sport (Skills for Life)
  • An ideal choice for all pupils or an alternative approach to engage hard to reach groups
  • Creates a community school with a link to a local club
  • Prepares pupils to be part of a team
  • Supports two of the DfE’s key indicators for use of the PE and sport premium

What does the golf programme include?

  • Adapted equipment, Golfway, from our equipment partner Masters Golf (worth £295)
  • 5 prescriptive lessons that give participants the chance to try golf, learn the basic skills and develop transferable abilities that will help them outside of playing golf
  • Fun and inclusive competition formats
